About Bluffle
A pass-the-phone party word game where the imposter does not know they are the imposter.
Why we built it
Every imposter app we played handed one person a card reading "IMPOSTER". That player then bluffs on purpose, and everyone else scans the table for someone acting shifty. It works, but it turns into a game about acting.
Bluffle changes one rule: the imposter gets a real word, similar to the group's word, and is told nothing. Their clues are honest because they believe they are innocent. That makes the game about listening rather than acting - and it means you can be the imposter, play perfectly straight, and still be caught.
The word packs
The hardest part is not the code, it is the pairs. A pair has to be close enough that one clue could describe either, but far enough apart that the clues eventually diverge. Synonyms are unplayable; unrelated words are caught instantly.
There are 5,051 pairs across 33 languages, and each language's packs are written for that culture rather than translated from English. Norwegian players get Lefse and Lompe, Japanese players get 寿司 and 刺身.
